For years now various research has been done on garlic (Allium Sativum). That research has proven that eating a garlic clove is very essential to one's health. But what is in 1 clove of garlic exactly? Why is it that this little herb/vegetable is known to have such amazing properties to it?

The primary compound that is found in garlic cloves known to enhance the nutritional health of people is Allicin. Scientists were able to discover that when Allicin decomposes, it releases a potent antioxidant which reacts with the various dangerous radicals in ones' body. Allicin has been confirmed by science to be a strong antioxidant. The value of antioxidants is that they are vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that protect human cells from the negative effects of free radicals. Free radicals are tiny molecules that are created when the body breaks down food for energy. These molecules can wreak havoc on the body. They are known to be possible causes of heart disease, arthritis, cancer, immunity weakness, and other diseases.

The three primary components of garlic that are disease fighting are; Diallyl Sulfide, Diallyl Disulfide, and Diallyl Trisulfide. In garlic these a chemical components contains sulfur. They are organic compounds that give garlic much of its anti-bacterial properties. The anti-microbial effects of garlic increase as the sulfur content goes up. The sulfur content goes up when the garlic is crushed or chopped. Crushing or chopping garlic releases and mixes all of the chemical compounds in the garlic clove. The crushing process also enhances the health benefits of the garlic.

In addition to Sulfides and Allicin, a clove of garlic also contains Ajoene. Ajoene functions and an antioxidant. It also has anti-clotting properties which can help reduce the risk of blood clots that cause strokes and heart attacks. It is also a compound that has significant anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal effects. It has been proven to have a positive effect upon multiple viruses, immune deficiencies, and is a broad spectrum anti-microbial. Conclusive research has proved that it is quite effective in killing antibiotic-resistance bacteria (including MRSA), ideal for reducing fungal infections (example is yeast infections) and also fighting parasites and viruses.

The components that are in any of the garlic clove also are beneficial to the heart. It helps the heart by aiding in relaxation and enlargement of the blood vessels, which in result improve blood flow throughout the entire body. The will ensure that one is healthy and also prevent high blood pressure, heart attack and also stroke. How essential is this to the body? Also as you consume the garlic clove, plaques are formed in the arteries, which help in preventing cholesterol from being oxidized, reducing the chance of getting heart disease. Apart from these, garlic has more health benefits.

Garlic has also been grouped as one of the foods that reduce and protect one from at least five kinds of cancer. Esophageal, prostate, breast, colon and ovarian cancer are the types of cancer that one can prevent with eating garlic. Also, garlic is believed to help in weight loss. Its plays a huge role in controlling weight. Garlic is a very health food supplement that one should include in daily meals so as to benefit from its many health properties. Garlic is best when eaten immediately after being chopped or crushed. One can also consume it while it is raw. To get to those tasty goodies use this garlic peeler tube to get the skin off fast!
